Hegemon meets Speaker
***may ruin the end of the Ender series if you have not read them all already**
So, rumor has it the stories will come together!
(then again rumor also had it that a movie will come out...but then again maybe it is a good thing that there is no movie, noone would be able to replicate the game room that exists in my imagination, then again...what if they did? how cool would that be?
Background:
My boyfriend left me so he could pursue graduate school on the other side of the country. One day he sends me a package with his favorite book of all time, Ender's Game, I read this book, then procede to devour the entire series and can't get enough of it (I'm on my second read through and am OBSESSED, moreso with Ender's Game, the Bean books and First Meetings than the Speaker series...). Unfortunately, THERE ARE NO MORE BOOKS....but there SHOULD be...right?
Analysis:
Card leaves SO MANY dangling plots at the end of his books, it's as if he leaves them there on the off chance he decides later on he wants to keep on going, and if he doesn't it's "artistic" and "deep" so that the reader can imagine his own ending...B.S.
Some examples of things left unanswered, just to name a few from the Hegemon books:
(1)Achilles' woman/child go up in space to a colony
(2)Bean goes to space with his kids with turned Anton's keys
Card does a much better job wrapping things up here IMO, well, Ender dies, and the family is more or less okay, then again Card has plenty of opportunity to mix things up, even here, Ender's death may not be permanent given the entire philotic connections with Val and Peter, etc.
Discussion:
So most obvious way Card could bind the series would be for Achilles' woman with baby, or at least her baby, to play out a similar Achilles saga in space, coming in contact with Ender's family/ancestors from Lusitania, and maybe even Bean and babes himself.
That being said, this would seemingly just be the Hegemon/Bean series take 2, with a space twist.
Another option would be to revive Ender, and have him inspire/teach/rectify/go up against Achilles' kid and/or come in contact with Bean's kids and go from there.
Either series may be fun to explore, especially if Card can take it in a new direction and it isnt just a redo of the Bean/Hegemon series with a space twist (not that I don't intend on rereading those a thousand times).
Who knows, maybe we will see a new book on the shelves soon (soon being a relative term).
Conclusion
...all i have to say is Orson Scott Card better not leave me hanging
